Power, cooling and space efficiency tool (PCSE)
Always on the ball, unless I'm trying to get money out of him, Pillar's Chris Drago was nice enough to volunteer their "storage efficiency" calculator. I must admit, it looks great…..and it doesn't appear to automatically take you to the "if you don't buy Pillar you are an idiot" page –at least not directly.

Hi Steve,
Had a look at the Pillar site and the formula for calculating how efficient the storage array is. Pillar have randomly decided to use floor space as a measure of efficiency when no data center manager on the planet has a space problem, just an enormous power and cooling problem. As power density has increased by an order of magnitude in the last 5 years we find empty data centers that are completely full (from a power and cooling perspective).
When are you back in Europe?
Steve
------Just got back from Prague, blog to follow. Back at SNW Frankfurt next month. Far as space - there are SOME people with a space problem my friend, though the point is well taken. If you don't have a physical issue then there are some tweaks one must make. I still applaud their effort. Cheers --- Steve
